The excitement was palpable as the students from Christ Lutheran School in Norfolk previewed the construction space that will eventually house a new gym, cafeteria, offices, and a multipurpose area. Awestricken students walked around the space with wonder and delight as they imagined how the completed project will look.

Students were given the opportunity to leave their mark on the gym floor by signing their names and inscribing Bible passages on the foundation of the building. Principal Drew Urban, who had previously led an elementary school that was devastated by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, came up with the idea of embedding God’s word as the foundation before laying the hardwood. While the signatures will be hidden, Urban’s intention was to give the students a sense of belonging to the historic school’s 151 year legacy and create meaningful memories for them.
